Book Review: Call of the Wild

By Jack London

4 out of 5 stars

This book is about a dog, Buck, taken from his warm Southland home, and thrust into the cold arctic.   He is forced to wok as a sled dog, pulling sleds for the Yukon gold rush.  He lives in a world where masters walk in and out of his life, but John Thornton steps in and saves Buckís life.  I would recommend this book to anyone, because it is descriptive, and realistic.

My favorite parts in the book were when Buck was fighting Spitz, because it was very descriptive, and realistic.  My other favorite part of the book was when Buck pulled the 1000 pound sled, for John Thornton.  Some people believe that it was wrong of John Thornton to have Buck pull the sled.  Personally I really don't mind because Buck won anyway, so I really don't see a problem.

As with all books there are parts you don't like.  My least favorite part in this book was when Hal and Mercedes were driving the dogsled. It angered me because I felt that people like that should not be allowed to drive dogs.  I also disliked when Buck was hunting the bull moose. I just really felt that Buck should have been with John Tornton.  These were about the only things I really did not like about this book.

I would recommend this book to anyone.  I feel confident that any adventure lover would enjoy this book.  I liked it because it was action packed, and I enjoyed the realistic qualities of the book.  I also liked the way the author told the story in Buck's perspective.  I feel others would like this book too.

I learned from this book.  I learned that not every tale has a happy ending.  I also learned from Hal and Mercedes that Arctic was no place for romance.  The biggest lesson I learned was that the Arctic is a cruel place.  These are a couple things of  the many that I learned.
