Call of the Wildis a touching story about a dog who was kidnapped from California. He is trying to learn how to live in the wild, barren, cold tundra in the Alaska gold rush where he is being used as a sled dog. He is learning about love, as in how to love and what it is like to be loved. I liked reading this book. It was easy to see things from the authorís perspective.
I liked this story because it was always changing. Sometimes, the characters seemed to relate to what happeneds to us. One example is when Buck moved to a whole new surroundings. That is sort of like when people move and they leave all of their friends behind. Another thing I liked about this book was how honest it was. One example is the temperature. The author never stretched the temperature to make it more or less than it was.
What I didnít like about this story was the end of it. It made me cry. It was very sad. I couldn't stand Buck's second to last owners- Mercades, Hal, and Charles. They treated Buck and his team very badly by beating them until they couldn't stand it any longer and gave up on life. I didnít like how the animals were treated cruelly, even though that is what really happened to them.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fiction books about history. In this book it doesnít tell you any lies about the harshness that really happened in this book. It was a little gory and their were dog fights like the one illustrated above. If that doesnít bother you, this might be a really good book for you to read.
I learned how truly brutal and harsh it was just to get to the Klondike site to begin to dig. I never realized how dependent the humans were on the dogs and the dogs were dependant on the humans when they were on the gold rush trail. If either one wasn't doing good, then both of them can die. An example of that is with Hal, Mercades, and Charles. I realized that if you were not experianced at something, it would be wise to take advice from someone else who is experianced. I also learned that one mistake can cost you your life.
