The Call of the Wild was a good book.  It is a story of a dog surviving during the Klondike gold rush.  It starts when Buck, the main character who is a dog, is kidnapped.  He is taken to the north to become a sled dog.  Buck has to make many adjustments.  One is not being the leader of the pack.  He also learns respect for the man with a club.  In this book Buck has to overcome all of these problems and more.

I liked the characters in this story.  Their actions made them more believable.  An example is how Hal, Charles, and Mercedes were stupid and wouldnít take advice from anyone.  As a consequence they broke through the ice and died.

I did not like the problems in this story.  There was always some kind of problem.  Once one problem was solved, another came up.  It was too unrealistic.  For example,  Buck was in a fight with Spitz.  As they fought a group of wild dogs came and attacked Buck and the pack.  A little while later Dolly started chasing Buck.  She had rabies and was going mad.  Buck is saved, of course, by his master though.

I would recommend this book to people who like dogs and the Klondike Gold Rush.  Even though this book is short and easy to read, it is a good book.  I don't think I would read this book again, but it was good for the first time.
