Call of the Wild is a book that was written by Jack London during the Klondike Gold Rush. This book was about the adventures of a dog named Buck. He gets kidnapped and sold to several different people. My opinion about this book is negative. It took almost all of my strength to keep focused on the book.

Even though it was very dull to me, there were some good qualities. I liked the personality of Buck. He had so much determination, no matter how the task was. A few examples would include, fighting Spitz, pulling at the front of the sled team, and saving John Thorton from different incidents. Buck learns so much in this book about living in the wild. He learns about the club, the whip, the harness, and how to work as a team.

I didn't like this book because it's gory, and everybody is mistreated. The dogs would get beaten with clubs and whips until they were badly bruised or even until the bled. The dogs often didn't get enough food or rest. I didn't like the fact that Buck got kidnapped in the first place. I hate it when people bet things such as money. John Thorton did this out of faith in his dog.

I would not recommend this book to someone who loves dogs. I would recommend this book to someone who doesn't mind gory books. If you hate people or dogs getting thrashed, shot, or beaten, this is not a book for you. If you like any type of war books, be sure to take a look. Any more advice? Sure! This book has people in it who are stubborn, nasty, kind and loving.

From this book, I learned that determination pays off. I also learned that life isn't always fair. Life sometimes isn't what it's set out to be. Sometimes, the wrong person/dog gets the punishment that wasn't meant for them. The last thing that I learned is that hard times prepare you for the next ones. Call of the Wild is loved by some, but is gruesome in my eyes.
