The Call of the Wild
was an amazing story of the survival of a dog-named Buck in the Alaskan
Klondike goldrush. I liked the book because everything was unexpected.
The Call of the Wild kept the action and suspense rolling.
The part of the book I really liked was the ending because it was totally unexpected, but I donít want to give the ending away for you. I also liked the part when Buckís master John Thornton bet $1,000 that buck could pull a 1,000 pound sled a 100 yards. Before Buck was going to pull the sled another man bet $600 that he could not pull the sled. Buck had to "Break it out" from a dead stand and his odds were 3 to 1. The crowd fell silent and Buckís master was yelling, "Haw" as loud as he could. Then Buck broke out the sled and Buck started to pull. When all of a sudden the sled came to a stop and all he could do was sudden jerks. Half an inch, one inch, two inches, the crowd started to roar. Buck was so close, but Iím not telling you if Buck makes it or not. I guess youíll just have to read the book.
What I disliked about this book is the kidnappers. I didnít like the way they took domestic dogs into the wild. If youíre a person who loves dogs I would not recommend this book. If youíre a person who loves the outdoors this would be the book for you. This is just an overall good book and there wasnít many things I disliked about the book.
A lesson I learned from this book is, in the wild, you kill or be killed, eat or be eaten. This book gave me a new look on how animals survive in the wild.
