Title of Lesson:  The Animals of Julie of the Wolves

Objective: Students will learn more about Arctic animal life through the use of electronic resources.

Lesson



Materials: Scavenger hunt  sheet, links, book Polar Bear and Other Arctic Animals

Introduction: The book Julie of the Wolves is not just about wolves, it is also about the entire ecosystem of the arctic. In this activity students will discover facts about various animals that share that ecosystem with wolves. 

Sequence of Instruction:
1. Ask students, "Who can tell me some of the animals from the video Arctic Animals, we watched? Today we are going to establish the setting of the book Julie of the Wolves by completing a scavenger hunt using the internet.
2. Handout the question sheet and give directions for using the link Arctic Animals.
3. Have students identify key words in the questions ti use for their searches.
4. Use the list posted on the white board to have students locate the site.
5. Complete the first question together.
6. Have students locate the rest of the information using the site.
7. Complete the activity. Students who finish early may play the "Pairs" game on the site.
8. Students who do not have internet access can use the books to locate the same information.

Closure: Have students identify three facts about animals they learned today. Collect questionnaires.
