What was life like in the small towns and cities of
the Midwest at the turn of the twentieth century? How did lives change
when the "endless" forests of the pineries were finally all cut down and
the lumbering industry moved west? Seventh graders at Altoona Middle School
sought the answers to these questions after reading the book Crescent
Moon by Alden Carter as a class project.
The book's setting is in Eau Claire and Altoona, Wisconsin
in the early 1900's. The class created these webpages to help you
understand more about the setting, events and author of the story. We hope
you will enjoy them. |
