The Eau Claire area was considered
to be an almost perfect place for building lumber mills. Two important
rivers, the Chippewa and the Eau Claire join together there. In addition,
nature provided two natural holding ponds - Half Moon Lake and Dells Pond
- for the logs to be stored. At the height of the lumbering boom nearly
30 saw mills operated along the shores of the two rivers. By the
end of the era, forty billion feet of pine had been removed from the Chippewa
Valley. Here
are
some
pages
to
help you learn more about lumbering. We
hope
you
enjoy
them.
