Many children in the early 1900s had dreams of going to school. Unfortunately, a lot of children didn't have a chance and had to work in mills or farms. That is why many kids became lumberjacks back then. Other kids, usually the kids whose families had more money dreamed of owning a business or being a teacher when they grew up.
If you have seen the pictures on my picture page before, you can see that some local schools looked like houses. Only a few kids actually went to these types of schools. Many kids went to crowded, less expensive schools. Now you can probably understand more about how children grew up in the early 1900s. You can ask yourself whether you would want to live back then or if you would want to live the way you are now.
