Called "the flu" or "the grippe",
influenza is a virus which causes chills, fever, aches and weakness. A
big problem results if pneumonia sets in. One of the worst outbreaks occurred
in 1918. Partly as a result of World War I, the epidemic spread throughout
the world killing nearly 20 million people, a half a million in the United
