Carriages

Horse drawn carriages were a popular form of transportation in the late 1800's and the early 1900's. The carriage above was used to pick up and deliver laundry to businesses and homes in Eau Claire.

Most people owned carriages rather than cars.  They were much more affordable.  Some carriages were inexpensive, while others, like the Brougham, weren't.

It was a light, closed, horse drawn carriage with the driver outside in the front.  This type of carriage was mostly owned by the wealthy because it cost $1,800.  Many cheaper, more affordable models were also made.
