No this wasn't the main job in Eau Claire. The average pay for a teacher was $21.20 a month for a male teacher and a female teacher was usually paid $15.30.
The first school in Eau Claire opened in the winter of
1856. It was on Jones Street which was between Farwell Street and Barstow
Street. John E. Stillman was the first teacher who taught in this school.
