There are many lumber mills in Wisconsin.  There once was 15,000 working lumber mills in Wisconsin, and now there are less than 5,000.  There were 26 recorded lumber mills in Bayfield county from about 1880 to 1940.  One reason why the Great Lake States were used for lumbering so much was their conection with the Great Lakes.
